The Phoenix Mobility Unit was my thesis project that was submitted in 2016. This is a hypothetical medical product that grants patients some independence during their recovery phase. The Phoenix Mobility Unit is intended to be an alternative to the traditional wheel chair which speaks to the abilities of patients with varying conditions. Not only was this product designed for the core needs of the patient, it also addressed the needs of a hospital`s systematic functions. Serving multiple functions, the Phoenix Mobility Unit addressed the concern of hospital budget cut-backs, equipment shortages and under staffed medical teams. Ultimately the goal of this thesis project was to bridge the gap between the needs and concerns of hospital staff and the self-efficacy of the patient’s recovery journey.
